Livingston's Roundabouts
Since 1995 when they were first built. The Residents of Livingston have been wondering on what the purpose was to have the sculptures on the roundabouts.
When they were first built, people thought it was a plan to get you to slow down before entering thee roundabout as it would "Blind You" from seeing across the roundabout.
However, People who lived in Livingston just after its designation will remember that Livingston was full of sculptures of Big Feet, Weird Shapes & More.
The reason that these things were built on the roundabouts was simply as follows. The LDC Was given a last sum of money to carry out its last operations. they had just finished the Almondvale Stadium (See: Livi Lions) and so had nothing to do with this money. It was the decision taken that Livingston had no landmarks within it and so they went ahead with the "Livingston Landmark Project" a project designed to put a landmark on each of the 5 major roundabouts: Livingston East Roundabout, Newpark Roundabout, Eliburn Roundabout, Lizzie Brice Roundabout & The Almond Roundabout.
These pieces of Art were designed by David F Wilson, an architect who has designed fountains and other sculptures for various companies and towns. Visit His Website at www.dfwilson.co.uk

These Roundabout sculptures will surely last as a living reminder of the LDC and that of Livingston New Town with its only proper landmarks.
